Highly scented candles - what exactly does that mean?
What are you getting when you buy one?
What's the difference between heavily scented, and richly scented, and triple scented?
And should you care?
Well, the good news is you can find out here....
Even the phrase "triple scented candles" relates more to a rule of thumb than any exact definition. Candle
makers suggest that "normally" you should use somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 an ounce of fragrance per pound of wax,
so a triple scented candle has somewhere between 1 and 1.5 oz. of scent per pound.
Just to complicate matters, it's not difficult to find candle making instructions that recommend anywhere from
1/4 to 1 oz. per pound.
Not exactly a precise definition, is it?
Ultimately, of course, it doesn't matter a great deal. Candle making at home has always been more of a craft
than a science, relying on technique and "feel", and you'll quickly work out what level of scent suits you.
And if you're buying candles, you'll equally soon get to know how one maker's "richly scented" candle compares
with another's "heavily scented candle".
And isn't the journey you take to find all this out half the fun anyway?
