Heavily scented candles - are they the right choice?
OK, you've decided you want a scented candle - perhaps aromatherapy, perhaps not.
But which one do you choose? A scented candle? A triple scented candle? A richly scented candle? A heavily scented
candle?
Here's a quick guide to how you choose....
- First decision - where and how are you going to use the scented candle?
- Are you going for a general mood throughout a largish area? Then you could consider one of the candles
described as "highly scented", or sometimes "triple scented".
- Or do you aim to enhance just one room? If so, the highly scented candles can be overpowering.
Don't mix food and heavily scented candles
- If there's food involved, it is probably best not to have a scent at all; rather use an unscented candle.
There's not much point in lavishing care and attention on a fragrant, mouth-watering meal only to have it
overwhelmed by too strong a scented candle.
- Will there be any guests? If you know them well, think about their preferences. If you have any doubts,
less is probably more. You don't want to send them home with headaches.
- How's the ventilation? Can you make sure that the fragrance levels will be dispersed and won't build up all
night - without having a draft that will adversely affect the way the candles will burn? (Have a look at the
Safety Tips here).
These are a few things that you should consider, but a few minutes' thought (and a quick read of the
articles on this site) will usually give you the answers, or at least point you in the right direction when
you're considering whether or not to choose heavily scented candles.
