The aromatherapy scented
candle - fragrance for mind and body
An aromatherapy scented candle - so much
is packed into that short phrase.
The very essence of what aromatherapy is all about is contained
in the idea of a fragrance that does you good.
Add the inherent emotional attraction of a candle, and you have
something that appeals to many senses - an aromatherapy scented
candle....
Aromatherapists have been studying the way essential oils
work on the body and brain for hundreds of years; the ancient
Chinese may well have been the first to use fragrant plants and
the Egyptians certainly used a crude form of distillation to
extract cedarwood oil.
Latin appears to have given us the word "perfume", via the
phrase "per fumum", which means "through/by smoke", while the
Greeks used aromatic plants for their medicinal and mental
benefits.
By the Middle Ages distillation had improved and within two or
three hundred years there was widespread extraction of
essential oils.
The number of essential oils in use increased, the emphasis
being largely on medical use, although this emphasis started to
decline about 100 years ago as the perfume and cosmetic
industries became more important users of essential oils.
